Jerome and Mary Davis and the ranch behind the city name
Jerome and Mary Davis owned a ranch that once covered roughly 12,000 acres; the city’s name derives from that ranch.
Jerome and Mary Davis were ranch owners whose land became central to the town’s origin story. The City of Davis says their ranch at one point covered about 12,000 acres. In the 1860s, the railroad purchased a large portion of it, and the settlement that developed around the junction took the Davis name.
